It's Saturday, so here I am again!

This week I bring you two pages of one of my favourite creatures EVER: mermaids. Not gonna lie, I didn't spend as much time as I wanted making this one - I'm sure you can tell - but I've been working very hard in what you call procastinating. Sorry.

"My sisters told me stories of humans. They said they sometimes sing to them to lure them underwater. - she grinned, showing off her sharp needle-teeth - I've been practicing. Want to hear?"
- Julie Kagawa, The Iron King

As you all already know, mermaids are aquatic creatures with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish. I'm not good friends with water, but for some reason I've always found these creatures fascinating and they're probably the only ocean thingy I trust. That's probably fucked up, but ask me if I care.

(I don't)

They're part of the folklore of many many cultures worlwide (Europe, Asia, Africa...) and the first stories appeared in ancient Assyria, where the goddess Atargatis transformed herself into a mermaid out of shame for accidentally killing her human lover. I guess it was supposed to be some kind of "punishment", but it sounds pretty cool to me.

Although they can be benevolent and fall in love with humans, they're mostly associated with events like storms, shipwrecks or drownings. Stories say they sang to lure sailors and murder them.

The male equivalent is the merman, their sightings less common than those of mermaids, but it's still assumed that they co-exist with their female counterparts. There's not actual evidence of mermaids or merman existing outside of folklore, but reports of mermaid sightings continue to the present day. And honestly...I believe in almost everything, so I'm not going to say they don't exist. Who the fuck knows. I hope they do.

When I first heard what mermaids supposedly did - murder men just because - I was pretty young and I thought "how come cool creatures like them are mean?" but let's be real here, how come men are so stupid? I'm not surprised, I just think it's funny how they've always been that way.

Myths say mermaids sang beautifully and sailors got so enamoured, they ended up drowning or taken down to the underwater kingdom. Mermaids are also accused of telling sailors their ship is doomed so they could drag them down in the water and squeeze the life out of them.

Okay, it is quite violent, but men were also kinda stupid simply following their voices and leaving everything behind because they saw a beautiful woman mermaid and they couldn't keep their dicks in their pants. Sorry not sorry, not their fault they were beautiful and had an amazing talent.

In conclusion, I think mermaids are badass af.
They're gorgeous, they can sing, they come in different shapes and they're magical. Also, they kind of symbolize freedom, right? I mean, they live and see the world...going from place to place and having the ability to go to different dimensions. HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!?!

They don't have anything holding them down, they do whatever they want whenever they want. Hell fucking yeah. They've got the beauty, strenght and wisdom to realize what they want and go and get it.

You go, wonderful creatures!!!

Anyway, that's all for today, read you on Monday!!
